Christmas Ornament Swap

For the past two years, Louise of TwentyCentMixture has run a very good local handmade Christmas Ornament Swap for us kiwi crafters.

As she’s no longer blogging, really busy at the moment, I thought why not take on the mantle of organising it for 2010.  I’ve contacted her and she’s given me the go-ahead from her end to organise it this year!  YAY!  I was a little scared my tree might be empty of new crafty joy, and I love receiving and sending handmade love at Christmas time. :)

Louise ran her swaps so well, that I thought that rather than invent the wheel again, I’d use her great wisdom and words too, to run this one!

Here are the guidelines for the swap:

1. Sign-up by sending me an email to sewfunky at orcon dot net dot nz. You need to include your name and snail mail address, plus your blog if you have one.  Signups will close on Friday 5th November.  Sorry, but to limit postage costs, this swap will only be open to New Zealand residents.

2. I will assign you into a small group of 6-7 people and send you the addresses of everyone in your group.  I will not send your address to anyone else.

3. You need to come up with an ornament design that you can easily replicate – it can be crafted however you like (knit, sew, crochet, embroider, print, gocco, paint etc), but it must be handmade (you can use a sewing machine though!).

My note here; It must be made to a certain standard though – please don’t get little Johnny to throw something onto card and consider it good enough for the swap.  I once got an ornament in a swap that was a piece of paper with some glitter and stickers on it, made by the person’s niece…  when other’s have put hard work and effort into their ornaments the expectation is that you’ll do much the same.

4. Make enough ornaments for your group, and post one ornament to each person by Friday 10th December.

5. Sit back and wait to receive some wonderful handmade ornaments in the post just in time for Christmas.

To help advertise this swap, please feel free to use this code on your blog/website:

If you need some inspiration for ideas, have a browse through the flickr groups for last year’s NZ swap and the 2008 US swap.

So, what are you waiting for?  Spread the news about the swap amongst all your crafty kiwi peeps, make some wee chrissy dec’s and spread the crafty joy!

Plus it’ll help to get to ‘meet’ some other lovely crafty online peeps. So sign me up. Just a question – the decos are handmade – are they to have a kiwi theme or is that pushing the limits a bit:) Will see if I can now manage to put your button on my blog….still learning the ropes in the techy line but getting there. That’s cos you’re using blogger – which means you need to do this:

      1. Go into your blogger dashboard, click on settings on the top tab’s, then click on layout (also on the top tab’s). Now you’re in the right place. :)

      2. You should be at a page that is basically a map of what your blog layout is. The side bar should have something that says “add a gadget” and possibly you’ll have some below that.

      3. Click on add a gadget and a list will pop up of popular “widgets/gadgets”, choose Picture and click on that.

      4. A small window will have popped up, you don’t need to add a title or a caption (unless you want to). For the link box put: http://www.sew-funky.com/2010/10/christmasornamentswap201/

The next section is deciding where to get the image from, use the from the web box and put this in it: http://www.sew-funky.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ornamentswap2010.jpg

      5. Click on Save. And it should now show up first on your sidebar, you can move it around by clicking and dragging it into position on the layout page. :)

      6. Click on Save on the top of the layout page and it will be on your blog! :)

Let me know if it doesn’t work…

I can’t wait! At the time that I applied, I didn’t have my own blog yet, but as I said, I was tempted to start my own blog and have now gone ahead and done it. Your button has been placed and I’ve even done my first posts on the swap… so excited to be taking part :-)
