I was able to buy a whole load of really cheap, nicely ripe, apricots this morning, so this afternoon decided to turn a few of them (half a kilo) into some very tasty apricot jam. The jam turned out so nice, I might just have to make some more ;)
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s dream of escaping the city sprawl with all its stresses and downshifting into rural Dorset is finally realised when he arrives at River Cottage in his 1960s Ford Corsair convertible. His year-long experiment, living off the fat of the land, and the sweat of his brow, involves a steep learning curve…and a lot of fun! Wrestling with free-spirited piglets, waking in the dead of night to protect his vegetable garden from a slug attack, and making cider from a windfall of apples all involve plenty of help from his friends and neighbours.

As well as getting ink’d, SewFunky has become a redhead in support of Canterbury.
Yesterday we celebrated Mr SewFunky’s 40th birthday with a BBQ and some good friends. The crafty side of me wanted to turn it into a kids party, after all Mr SewFunky is still a kid. I managed to restrain myself and just whip up just some bunting and balloons.
My friend Jodz also got creative (despite having the week from Hell), making Mr SewFunky this awesome cake:

There have been a few changes around the SewFunky house, with a family of three growing girls (scary to think how quickly we’ll soon be a family of teenagers soon!) we decided it was time for them to all have their own rooms. This has meant that Aimee has moved into what was the Filmguide/Avon offices. Consequently, Mr SewFunky has moved the FilmGuide offices into MY craft room, forcing me to reduce my clutter and making me think about just how much stuff I’ve accumulated over the years under the guise of essential craft purchases.
Because of this, the shared space and the realisation of how much unused supplies I have (we’re talking 30 odd plastic bins – the 60l kind – full!), I have decided to follow in Mr SewFunky’s footsteps and declare a ban on spending.
Mr SewFunky has made a commitment to stop buying metal men – which he plays with in dark garages with middle aged men ;) – and finish off his numerous UFO’s. I have decided to do the same.
I’ll also going to challenge myself to start and complete a new project every fortnight, and blog about it.
So, 2011 – the year of the frugal crafter is upon us. Will you join me?
Sadly life isn’t always about the fun things. There are the every day responsibilities of adult life to contend with, and then there are the occasional ones. Like cleaning and re-organising the fridge. It had been a while since we’d really taken a close look at what was in the fridge, and the New Year holiday seemed like as good a time as any to clean it out and organise the contents a little better, especially as it’s salad season and we’re going to be using the fridge to store all the summer yumminess!
On the way home from our Christmas Holidays we popped in to see Jodz and pick up our new Kitten, Hermione. Of course after being away for over a week we had to go shopping which meant leaving Hermione locked in the bathroom – with water, food and a bed – whilst we went out.
An hour later when we returned home we opened the bathroom door to let Hermione out, but she was no where to be seen. After half an hour of searching the house and gardens – we’d left the windows open slightly so she wouldn’t cook, but didn’t think she’s be able to get out – we discovered that she was fast asleep in the vanity draw.
If she’s not a bundle of boundless energy, Hermione loves to plop down and sleep. It’s a cats life!
