My good friend, Jodz, never ceases to amaze me with her generosity and little kindnesses! Look at what she gave us all for Christmas!

cute little apron (handmade by Jodz) and a box of pancake mix
- I know what Hope is making us for breakie tomorrow!

Jodz knows just what to get for my girls… A Ben 10 pack for the Aimster!

A neat press-out model book for Bree – she wanted to make it straight away but unfortunately for her we got home after bedtime…

We’ve been friends ever since my autistic daughter and her aspie daughter found themselves in the same class five years ago.

Don’t think she forgot us either… She gave us a movie night pack, including microwave popcorn, reduced cream and onion soup (for the quintessential kiwi dip), potato chips and coke!! If you know us personally, you’d know that movie reviews etc are Mr Sew-Funky’s special interest, so it was a very apt gift!

But that is not all, oh no that is not all (sounding a little Dr.Seussish…). She popped in a little pressie just for me! A Bracelet (made from buttons, she knows me so well) and my favourite chocolates, Turkish Delights!!!

Thanks so much for these cool pressies, Jodz! You put my A Dark Knight DVD and non-descript chocolates to shame!

I especially like the apron she made for Hope, I spied it on her blog and had hoped wistfully that she’d made one for her! Thanks for all the thought that went into the gifts. I’ll really have to pull my finger out and plan better for next years Christmas… It just seemed to jump at me out of nowhere!

and other cool items…

After voting this morning and taking Mr SewFunky to work (aargh he has to work today and tomorrow – all weekend!), I decided to stop by my favourite bargain warehouse – Mr Bo Jumbles. What a haul we got! New (to us anyway) clothes, tablecloths, fabric, aprons and a really cute little puppet!

Here are the aprons, modeled by the lovely Hope (& Bree);

And a tablecloth (I LOVE the colours!)

Fabric (that brown thing had been marked for embroidery – a cushion cover?)

And an embroidered cloth ( the teacup is actually a little pocket! – very CUTE!)

And a cute little handmade dress that I’m going to make into a bag! Yes, it’s wool and embroidered…

And a very AWESOME doggie puppet, Harry!

And on a completely different note, look at what Mr SewFunky found while he was meant to be working!

Button Beauty is hosting a week of teatowels this week, and in light of that I went back into the recesses of old posts on the blog to find this one…

It was a little half apron that I made for my sister for her birthday. So simple.

repost; simple half apron, Friday, April 18,2008

One really nice tea towel, a little ric rac and ribbon for the ties and you have a really neat half apron. Super easy, and economical! I got the tea towel for $1 (marked down from $8.95!).

I just love the simplicity of this project, and as soon as I saw the tea towel it just screamed apron to me.

Remember to enter the draw to win Amanda Blake Soule’s book – the creative family here on my blog.

I was on my way out to the doctor’s (yes, Bree is still sick! :( ) when, I spied a little parcel in my mailbox from CurlyPops. I joined her pay it forward challenge almost two months ago, which reminds me I need to think about sending my extra special people something!

Inside was a very gorgeous apron in my favourite colours!!

It made my day so much better!!! CurlyPops has a really excellent blog that I highly recommend reading – I have her on my bloglines!

I am still in the process of sorting out my craft room so that it is nicer to be in. I got rid of one of the desks, and put in a huge bookshelf (now fabric shelf! ;) ). It has been so great to re-find things I forgot I had, and I think it will curb some of my desire to buy more than I need (yeah, right!). I will try anyway! The room looks lighter and airier, my only complaint is that I will need to do any chopping out on the dining room table, and there is no comfortable chair in there so I can knit to my hearts content. Those things weren’t in there before, but a girl can dream about a bigger craft room, can’t she?? I will post photo’s when I’m done.

Yesterday, I realised that I needed an apron in the kitchen whilst making messy hamburger patties from scratch. I like being able to wipe my hands which gets somewhat messy!

So this afternoon I found myself making one. I didn’t want one with a bib, cos’ it’s just too hot here at the moment.

I ended up making two – not that I need two, but I used an old favourite denim skirt, and front and back had enough fabric for two!

Here are some basic instructions of what I did;

1. I chose cool vintage paisley fabric to go with the denim skirt. Using the shape of my skirt (which was an A frame) as a guide to the shape of my apron, I cut the paisley fabric to the same shape.

2. I sewed the 2 fabrics right sides together, leaving top open, and then pulling it right side out.

3. I then made the ties out of the paisley fabric (think long skinny length of fabric sewn together) and sewed it to the top of apron.

4. My next thought was that it needed pockets, somewhere to hang the tea towel or put the oven glove, and so I made a huge pocket sewing it in the middle to make two pockets.

And here we have it, modeled by my lovely 11 year old daughter!

Please comment below if you would like further clarification to the above instructions, as I’m not sure if they are clear enough.
