I just got stung by a bee…  on the toe…  Sounds like another “you can tell it’s Summer, when…” quotes!

It hurts.

At least, it has given me an excuse to hop on here and take a look at all the OWOH giveaway’s that are going on at the moment.  There are so many to enter (737 at time of writing).

I got the final sign-off from my gynecologist yesterday morning.  I’m so glad that I decided to go the whole hog and have a total hysterectomy with the oopherectomy, because they discovered some “abnormal cells” on the Fallopian tubes.  The cells weren’t cancerous or even pre-cancerous, but at the stage before all that.  It’s scary to think that they recommend only getting the ovaries removed if you carry the brca1 gene, because if I’d gone that way, I’d still have these abnormal cells in my body. :(  But Yay, I don’t! So let’s all celebrate!!!

After the doctor’s appointment, Briahna and I decided an opshopping adventure in Papakura was required.  I actually wanted to go to Fabricland to buy some more brooch backs.  Papakura’s best opshops are so close, it would be silly not to go, right?  RIGHT!

Looking Up

2009 has been a tough year for me, for regular followers I don’t have to go into details. For new followers, You’ll just have to take my word for it. But with 2009 almost over, it’s time to start looking up, and thinking about all the good things that next year will hold.

exhausted

This is exactly how I feel today.  Yesterday was a very long day, as Briahna went in for her long awaited tonsillectomy.  We waited 2.5 hours just for her to go into the operating room and then of course there was the 4 hour wait until she was able to go home after the surgery.  During this time I was unable to contact my normally contactable hubby because his cellphone was playing up (unbeknownst to both of us at the time – I thought he had it switched off and he thought it was working).  Needless to say it all added up to a very stressful day!
Briahna came through the op well, but is in a lot of pain!  And last night was very sleepless as we had to give her her pain med’s every four hours.  It felt a lot like having a newborn again, glad that’s all over – hehe!
Needless to say – I am totally exhausted!  And after her 10am med’s I think I might join her for a little naptime.
On a little sidenote, unrelated to the above, look at what I won during Angelique’s Blogtoberfest giveaway!
Blue Bunny

Included with him will be a little parcel of pacific goodness all the way from New Caledonia! YAY!  I’m such a lucky girl.  I’ve loved the No Life Without Wife blog for a while now – if you’ve never seen it, go check it out!

and it’s been almost a month since I last posted.

It’s funny how easy you can get out of the practise of blogging – way too easy!  Especially when I really didn’t think I had anything good to post about.  This year has definately been my annus horribilis, it can’t get much worse than losing a parent.

I have been working on just getting through the rest of the year.  In December, I am going to be having a radical hysterectomy because I carry the BRCA1+ genetic mutation.  It’s a little scary and I just wish that I had my Mum around to help me deal with the decisions that have needed to be made.  I have put on hold the decision of whether or not to have prophylactic mastectomies.  That’s just too hard…  I am feeling a lot of peace though!  God is good, and He is helping me…

Anyway, I have missed you all and I really want to get back to having fun with crafting.  It’s nice to have something to take the mind off it all!

I am planning on doing a couple of local craft markets and am making some neat Christmas decorations and some brooches, cards etc to sell. :)

I hope you all haven’t given up on the sewfunky blog, cos I plan on making a comeback real soon!  :)

Yep, it’s that time of year at our house.  Lot’s of birthday going’s on’s!  A couple of weeks ago it was Hope’s and now it’s Aimee’s turn.  Luckily for Aimee, I think I have my craft mojo back, at least in a small way.

Lookie, what I’m making her for her 11th Birthday tomorrow!

Well, a sneak peak anyway…  still unfinished, but thank God for husbandless evenings, because tonight I’ll finish it!

In case you’re wondering what it could possibly be…  It’s a little case (fur-lined & waterproof resistant) for her Nintendo DS.

Yesterday at craft group my interest in applique was rekindled and I’ve been at it like crazy since then.  Cupcakes, birds, flowers all excitedly stitched.  So, lets hope the craft creativity drought is finally over because I am getting sick of reading novels hastily chosen from the local library!  There’s a season for everything, but I was going a little crazy there!

Hope life’s treating you well,

D.

Saturday
Mostly Sunny
5° | 14°

So far the forecast is for mostly sunny weather on the day we move! YAY!

Being winter at the moment makes shifting house difficult. So hopefully the predictions
are correct! :)

UPDATE:
The weather forecast now looks like this – even better, but I do wonder why the change in
just 5 hours.

Saturday
Clear
3° | 12°
Oh, and by the way, this is my 500th post and to celebrate I’ll be doing a giveaway once I’m
settled in
the new house, so keep an eye out in a few weeks time!!

I am beginning to get excited about the shift, more and more so as I pack up the house! :)

Yesterday, I discovered this bag full of buttons.  Now, I thought I’d discovered all the buttons I’d had around the house and organised them into jars.  I was mistaken.

Today, I rang the schools to organise enrolment (and leaving) of the eldest and youngest (the middle daughter get’s to stay at her current school!).  It’s such a good feeling to know they’ll be going to good schools within walking distance of the new house!  Really good! :D

So it’s all coming together, just a few more (say 20 or so) boxes to pack and come Saturday we’ll be on our way!  YAY!

Today, we all went into the city to watch the new studio ghibli film, ponyo. What an awesome little japanese film. :)

Then to add to the Japanesey theme, we went to a little Japanese shop and I bought this sweet little soy sauce pot, a clear plastic umbrella (for my 12 year old daughter!) and a neat little elephant notebook. I could’ve spent a whole lot more, but the budget was tight.

All in all, a great way to spend a day in the middle of the school holidays. Especially, when you need a distraction from all the packing going on!
