Using worsted weight cotton yarn and 4.5mm needles, cast on 70 stitches.

NOTE:  Use stitch markers to mark last 20 stitches on each end.  These are the sides of the swiffer cloth and will be sewn in when you’ve finished knitting the cloth.

Row 1 and all odd rows: k13, p1, k6, yo p2tog to last 20sts(15times), k6, p1, k13.

Row 2 and all even rows (right-side): p13, k7, p2tog yo to last 20sts(15times), k7, p13.

Knit until work measures 10cm (4 inches).

You’ll now notice how useful all those purl’s were.  You should have a nice line to show you where to sew the side pockets of your brand spankling new swiffer cloth.  Sew the pocket seams, sew in the yarn ends and WOOHOO there you go!

When I spotted this on Melissa’s blog I knew I had to join.  I haven’t really knitted/designed a new cloth for a while, and I felt like I had to get back on the horse again.

So last night this is what I came up with:

cloth-a-long | new designs

Three new designs! :)  I’ll put the patterns up on the blog later today, as I have art group this morning.

Also, keep an eye out for my Friday Flicks post this afternoon.  I’ll be recommending a great film to rent for the weekend!

Boy, do I hate scrubbing pots! But, when you cook your dog’s food think, stuck to the bottom rice! You know that someone’s gonna have to clean the gunk, and in my house it’s probably going to be me…

In the interest of being frugal and handmade, last year I made a knitted pot scrubber. Boy it was hard on the fingers, and I never want to knit one again! I never knew knitting could hurt so much! It’s the tulle – you see.

So I decided that I would try crocheting one… It’s super easy, and works even better than the knitted one!

I just crocheted a little circle with some cotton yarn and some strips of tulle – it’s not so pretty, and bare in mind this is my first one!

I don’t think I could write out the pattern, because I’m no crochet expert, but it’s a fairly basic circle. :)

Now, I’m off to scrub that pot!

I decided to deviate from my usual circular short row cloths this month, and I’ve made a octagonal cloth.  It is similar to the average granny cloth to knit up.  Very easy!
March Cloth

Octagonal Cloth

I used a bamboo yarn that I picked up from Spotlight…   It knits up looking like army camo!  I used 4mm needles.

CO 21 sts.
*Knit one row.
then; increase at each end of the next row, by knitting into the front and back of first and last stitches.*
Repeat until you have 45 stitches on your needles.
Knit 30 rows without increasing or decreasing.
*then; decrease at each end of row, by knitting two stitches together.
Next row; knit row.*
Repeat until you have 21 stitches on your needles.
Bind off and sew in the ends.

To celebrate love day, I’ve designed a special cloth.

Just because I want to, and because I can! :)

Using 4mm needles and 100% worsted weight cotton yarn, cast on 12 stitches.

Wedge 1 use red yarn:
Row 1 & all odd stitches: K until last 3 stitches, P2, K1.
Row 2: K3, YO, K until last stitch, turn.
Row 4: K3, YO, K until last 2 stitches, turn.
Row 6: K3, YO, K until last 3 stitches, turn.
Row 8: K3, YO, K2tog, K until last 4 stitches, turn.
Row 10: K3, K2tog, K until last 5 stitches, turn.
Row 12: K3, K2 tog, K until last 6 stitches, turn.
Row 14: K3, K2tog, K to end of row.

Wedge 2
use pink or white yarn:
Row 1 & all odd stitches: K until last 3 stitches, P2, K1.
Row 2: K until last stitch, turn.
Row 4: K until last 2 stitches, turn.
Row 6: K until last 3 stitches, turn.
Row 8: K until last 4 stitches, turn.
Row 10: K until last 5 stitches, turn.
Row 12: K until last 6 stitches, turn.
Row 14: K to end of row.

This cloth is made up of 9 wedges. Begin with wedge one, then knit wedge two, then wedge one twice, wedge two, wedge one twice, wedge two, ending by doing wedge one once more. On the last wedge, you can either cast off on Row 14 or using kitchener stitch knit the last row and the cast on row together, making sure you have the right sides together. Then sew up the circle in the middle, sew in the loose threads and you’re done!

I based the cloth on the February Baby Wavy cloth. And you can make it to that pattern if you want the wedges to be shaped like petals all around. See the pic below:
