Retreat

They are the two word’s I can use to describe my mothers day weekend!  First off, I was on a retreat with one of my very best friends where I was spoiled beyond belief.  And then I came home to the extra special treat of SEA SEW! :D

I cannot say anything negative at all about the weekend, it was ALL good.  The food, the company, the activities we did were all absolutely fabulous!

On Saturday morning, we moseyed on down to the Silverdale Markets, and were pleasantly surprised by how many neat new crafty stalls had popped up since we were last there.  I bought a really neat button ring and chatted to some really friendly creative people.  I was truly in my element!  It was neat to get feedback on my two new handbag creations.  One for Jodz a market bag and my cute little messenger bag mentioned in the previous post.  It’s so satisfying to have people notice your creations when you are out and about, and I felt really encouraged to research more about doing a couple of local craft markets.  They just seem like SO much fun!

Saturday afternoon was spent getting nails manicured and unruly eyebrows trimmed.  This wasn’t without laughter, especially when I regaled the story of my autistic daughter loving mono-brows.  Yes, I had let them get totally out of control and my children were drawing pictures of the mono-browed mother.  Aimee decided that she loved how it looked – like a comic book character, she said.  EEEK!  And so I was so very grateful for the lovely ladies who gave up their Saturday to pamper us mums!!  We did have a little freakout from Aimee when I got home and she saw what they had done, but all is forgiven now.  I think that is because, as she said, they will grow back!  The life and times of family life with autism – hehehe!

Sunday was relaxing with a walk down the beach, and a little art with Ursula, one of the other mum’s that was there.  I got to dabble a little with paint and canvas – which proved a lot of fun, especially after a couple of glasses of pinot…  :D  We also watched the absolutely fab movie Sex in the City.  I can’t believe I avoided that one, but was kinda glad that I had, as it was a great movie to watch with a good girl friend.

It didn’t rain all weekend, after all – hurrah!

Feeling greatly refreshed to face another term with my challenging family, and so I want to thank those that organise the retreats, RECREATE; and the retreat centre, Vaughn Park Anglican Retreat Centre; and especially the beauticians, Beautified.  Woo hoo, thanks so much guys for making the weekend so absolutely fab and just such a respite from my normal mundane life!  Of course, I shouldn’t forget my retreat buddy, Jodz, in the thanks for a great weekend praises! ;)

relief is at hand!

Retreat starts in around 5 and a half hours, hurrah!

but the weather looks like this…

Thunderstorm
13°C

Current: Thunderstorm
Wind: N at 21 km/h
Humidity: 88%

Gotta love autumn for great weather! Still retreat’s not about the weather and I’m really looking forward to long talks, good food, and even better wine! I bought a really yummy pinot noir to take with me, and Jodz always brings something nice too!
I’ve been busy sewing up a storm here this week – hence the absence of posts here on the blog, because most of it is secret stuff! ;)

Still here is something that’s not secret – a new handbag for me!

I made this neat reversible messenger bag using the pattern you can find here on burdastyle. I love it so much, it’s sure to become a favourite.

Please forgive the photograph as this is what it looks like outside my hall window – neighbours garage.

Better find out the old raincoat, don’t ya think?!!

Hope you all have a great weekend, I know that I’m gonna!

to this…
A little bit cryptic, but this is my little present to my retreat buddie Jodz and I don’t want to give it all away – just a sneak peek! ;)
I discovered the neat retro purple apron in the sock bag, of all places, and I decided that it would be better re-fashioned/up-cycled into something great for my purple loving friend Jodz!!
On a side note, I am LOVING my little wristlet pincushion, so useful and comfy on my wrist! :D
And yep, I am starting the countdown to this weekends retreat now! Only 4 sleeps to go, hehehe!
Just a taste of our crafting retreat…
We ate, we crafted, we talked, we ate again, I read, we enjoyed the view, I enjoyed Garth the golden retriever’s company, we knitted, we sewed, we basically had a ball!
I am really growing to love and respect these women who have become my friends. Thanks girls, for a wonderful weekend! Especially, Carol-Ann who gave us the use of her home and her great hospitality. :)
I will write some more detailed posts later, for now I just want to stay in the retreat head-space before my brain get’s all in a tither again!

I am extremely lucky to have some very kind and generous friends at the moment. Two of them really blessed me on the past weekend with very thoughtful gifts. As you know I spent the weekend on a retreat, which was really fantastic. I really believe that I NEED these weekends so I can cope with my “real life”. It’s the only time I can get away from being a wife, mother, etc. and truly be myself and have fun! I can behave like a teenager, giggle into the wee hours and basically be as silly as I like without any repercussions. It’s so fun…

Anyway, I’d publicly like to thank Jodz, who spent the weekend with me. She has always been a fantastic listening ear, and is loads of fun to boot! I so loved our shopping adventures and talking with her into the night. Everytime we go on retreat together, we make each other a little gift – I tell you, it’s like Christmas! This time she made me a little wrist pincushion with some very neat looking pins and $20 to spend on our op shopping adventures! Thanks so much for that Jodee!! I made her a knitting needle roll – similar to the one I made here, and gave her a knitted starfish cloth. I forgot to take a photo, so I may have to ask for one from Jodz later…

Jodz gift (wrist pincushion, pins, card and $20)

Also, a very good friend Lianne, gave me a sweet surprise when she appeared from her car, at school on Friday afternoon, with a really thoughtful retreat bag. Inside was a goss mag, some lippie, some skin cream and other beauty stuff and last but not least a bar of chocolate (mmmmm!). It was so unexpected it made me giddy with excitement for the weekend and I’ll still be talking about it into next year… Thank you so much Lianne, I feel truly blessed to be considered your friend! Also… it’s about time you got a blog (hint, hint…) Lianne is one of the most talented crafters I know. She makes the most beautiful baby shoes, bibs and smocking…. I am hoping she will come with us on retreat in November – please come Lianne – because I know we will all have so much fun together!!!

Lianne’s Pressie…

Retreat was amazing, as per usual. We stay at Vaughn Park Retreat Centre and it is a really lovely place to stay. It is close to some really great op shops and two really great markets (Silverdale on Saturday’s and Browns Bay on Sunday’s). And of course, I better not forget to tell you that it’s by the beach at Long Bay (not that we went down to the beach at all on the weekend!). It is so nice to not have to worry about the kid’s or what you’re gonna have for dinner. You can just relax and do what you want to do. Jodz and I like to check out the local op shops and markets and discovered a really awesome little cafe – La Tropesienne in Browns Bay. It was an experience that I am hoping to repeat next time! The prices are reasonable and the surroundings are just so interesting. The owner has some really ecclectic collections on show and I could spend hours just looking around at them. It was a real EXPERIENCE going to the loo. I was going to put the photo’s up here, but I’ve decided it’s actually better to experience it for yourself. If you go, ask to use the toilet… ;)

Another favourite shop we go to in Silverdale is “Pandora’s Box” – I just love looking through all her beautiful things. If I had more money I’d buy more, but even as a window shop it is wonderful.

Pandora’s Box in Silverdale

Some of my op shop finds, not all as I didn’t remember to photograph them all…

All in all it was a great weekend, I even finished making the little cloth I’ve promised the pattern for. That will be up later on today… Thanks for everyones best wishes!

D

Well, I’m back now!
It wasn’t long enough – it never is.

I want to go back – I always do.

View from our door!
The beach is lovely and we manged to fit in a couple of walks down the beach!

I had a lot of fun. I didn’t take many photo’s (I only took the two that are in this post!) or do much of the very much needed knitting. I did however get to spend some time at the Silverdale Markets and discovered a really awesome gem of an op shop on Saturday. Sunday was spent in my pajama’s right through till after lunch (so nice to just veg out!).

Did I say that I want to go back already?!

Everytime, I go on retreat Jodee and I give each other gifts and drink a little wine and basically realise how very hard our real lives actually are. Nothing like being pandered to, to make you realise how much you do for others!

I made Jodee some piggie related things – no I don’t think she is a pig! It’s just that she has a wee (well not wee – HUGE) collection of pig stuff! So I made her a pig cloth and a pig pincushion. These are just some of the many things I’ve been unable to blog about – knowing that she, and others whose birthdays are coming up, read this blog (Hi Jodz!).I also made her a cool bag for her knitting, a rice bag and a glass cosy. I gave her one of my favourite cards and some lindt chocolates too!

I love retreat, but boy is it hard coming back home to reality! So today instead of rushing around doing housework I am trying to take it a little easy and spend time knitting the commissioned zombies and I might even watch a little tv.

Hooray! The weekend I’ve been waiting for for the past month is now here!!! My good friend Jodee and I are going to a Mother’s Retreat Weekend. It’s gonna be a blast! A great time of relaxation, shopping, pampering, knitting and wine! :) Both Jodee and I have special children on the autistic spectrum and this is one of the only times we get to have fun and let our hair down a little bit. I will take the camera and post some photos when we get back.

After yesterday, I realise I so NEED this!
