My creative space today is all about works-in-progress…
I mentioned this painting in yesterday’s post, I’m a little bit further along in the process of transformation from canvas to art today! I was a bit worried about how the letters would turn out – my hand was a little wobbly to begin with… and this painting on canvas business is still a new thing for me – fun, but new and scary!
After spending a while painting, I thought it would be interesting to see what the word freedom literally means. I am sure that it is a word that conjures up all sorts of thoughts and understanding, and that was proven by the amount of information you get on Dictionary.com;
free·dom

4.political or national independence.
5.personal liberty, as opposed to bondage or slavery: a slave who bought his freedom.
6.exemption from the presence of anything specified (usually fol. by from): freedom from fear.
7.the absence of or release from ties, obligations, etc.
8.ease or facility of movement or action: to enjoy the freedom of living in the country.
9.frankness of manner or speech.
10.general exemption or immunity: freedom from taxation.
11.the absence of ceremony or reserve.
12.a liberty taken.
13.a particular immunity or privilege enjoyed, as by a city or corporation: freedom to levy taxes.
14.civil liberty, as opposed to subjection to an arbitrary or despotic government.
15.the right to enjoy all the privileges or special rights of citizenship, membership, etc., in a community or the like.
16.the right to frequent, enjoy, or use at will: to have the freedom of a friend’s library.
17.Philosophy. the power to exercise choice and make decisions without constraint from within or without; autonomy; self-determination.
So yeah, it means a variety of different things, but pretty much all of them point to one thing : choice. Freedom means you have a choice!
What does Freedom mean to you?
I also finally got around to doing some more doilie paintings;
I have had the canvases for these painted for a few months now (hangs head in shame). So today, I finally glued the saved doilies onto them. Now all they need is a spray of matt varnish and they’re ready to hang on the wall – yipee!
What have you been up to creatively today? Usually you can check out everyone’s spaces over here on Kootoyou’s blog
